It is with great enthusiasm that STEPS Lacrosse LLC announces the launch of a new girls’ lacrosse club in the San Francisco Bay Area in partnership with Lauren Yee and Erin Burns who are both active members of the lacrosse community in the region.

STEPS California will offer inaugural club teams for grad years 2022-2028 beginning play in the summer of 2020. STEPS enters the market to address a growing need for high intensity, development-focused, competitive exposure for girls interested in playing lacrosse at the highest level. While we are aware of current club offerings for girls in the Bay Area, we firmly believe that the growing demand for competitive play will only be strengthened by our offerings. While we invite girls throughout the Bay Area to try-out for our teams, STEPS will anchor itself in the city of San Francisco with supplemental facilities in Marin and the Peninsula.

STEPS (Sportsmanship + Teamwork + Education + Pride = Success) is an elite club program currently operating in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Ranked in 2018 by US Club Lacrosse as the #1 Girls Club in the country, STEPS was also the first girls club lacrosse program to be sponsored by Nike. STEPS founders Jessica and Charlie Shoulberg also run Lax for the Cure, Live Love Lax, and the Nike G8, three of the most sought-after tournaments in the country. In addition, STEPS manages a number of individual events, most notably the Nike XPO Individual Showcases.  Arguably more noteworthy, is the lived value of giving back that underscores the STEPS program. STEPS has raised more than $3 million dollars for Breast Cancer Research since the inaugural Lax for the Cure, while Live Love Lax is a fundraiser for The One Love Foundation, which has raised over $120,000 in just two years. Finally, STEPS 17-year history of placing girls in the top colleges and universities is unrivaled. With more than 375 STEPS girls playing collegiate lacrosse since 2003, the 2019 class features signed commitments to Stanford, Princeton, Cornell, Northwestern, Florida, W&L, Bucknell, Boston College, and Notre Dame to highlight a selection, while the 2020 class has secured 27 current verbal commitments.

While STEPS California will be run locally by Lauren Yee and Erin Burns, this national partnership allows for immediate access to the East Coast’s best tournaments (Lax for the Cure currently has a 180-team waiting list) in addition to a vast recruiting network that is relationship-driven and has been cultivated for more than 15 years.
